At approximately 11:48 on 23 August 2026, Tracing Point Security was notified of a Silver Toyota Cross that had been stolen from the Morewood area of Hillcrest.
The vehicle was fitted with a tracking device, which enabled its location to be identified. Tracing Point Tactical Response Unit (TRU) members, together with officers from another private security company, immediately proceeded to the vehicle’s last known location.
Upon arrival at the location, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning the stolen vehicle. Tracing Point members and the responding officers secured the vehicle and ensured that it was recovered safely.
South African Police Service (SAPS) members were contacted and attended the scene. The vehicle was handed over to SAPS, who will continue with the investigation and the identification and apprehension of the suspects.
This successful recovery once again highlights the importance of vehicle tracking technology, effective communication and a rapid tactical response, as well as the value of cooperation between security companies and SAPS.
A special commendation goes to the Tracing Point Security members and all responding officers for their swift response and coordinated efforts, which resulted in the successful recovery of the stolen vehicle.
